Taxi driver fined for discarded cig

A Discarded cigarette cost a North Lincolnshire taxi driver a total of £280 in fines and costs.

Simon Batt, prosecuting for North Lincolnshire Council, said a council employee saw Charlotte Wright discard a burning cigarette on Scunthorpe High Street on the morning of March 3.

"There were no passengers in the taxi at the time," he told North Lincolnshire magistrates.

An investigation was launched and, Mr Batt said: "Charlotte Wright was the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time of the offence."

A number of attempts were made to contact her both in writing and by personal visits.

She was eventually issued with a fixed penalty notice but this was not paid.

"She admitted she committed the offence on the form," he explained.

Wright, of Chiltern Crescent, Scunthorpe, pleaded guilty by letter to a fly tipping charge.

In mitigation she said: "I am aware this matter should have been resolved earlier."

Wright, whose age was not given in court, stated her father had been ill and she was under stress at the time.

She was fined £80 and was ordered to pay this, and the £200 costs, within 28 days.

Outside one of the nightclubs in my town the club owner has painted a yellow line on the floor. Anyone going outside the club to smoke has to stay behind the yellow line because anything on the floor behind the line is private property any anything in front of the line is public highway. Drop your butts on one side it's free drop them the otherside face a fine.
