Drug-dealing taxi driver jailed A STREET drug dealer caught out in an undercover police operation has been jailed for three-and-a-half years. Taxi worker Qasim Akbar (29) supplied three lots of heroin totalling 10.44g and 4.79g of crack cocaine to officers posing as Irish travellers in February. Akbar, said to have been dealing for four months as he was in debt, had a stock of drugs available and bragged he could get hold of large quantities of heroin, Burnley Crown Court heard. Akbar, of Sackville Street, Brierfield, had admitted three counts of supplying heroin and one of supplying crack cocaine and had been committed for sentence by Burnley magistrates. Miss Sarah Statham (prosecuting) said the defendant was arrested as part of Operation Nimrod. Two undercover police officers, claiming to be travellers, went around the area with sportswear in the back of a van. They would often pay for drugs with cash but, on occasions, to make their story more believable, would get drugs in return for sports clothes. Miss Statham said the officers were introduced to the defendant via his brother, who was also now facing drugs charges. One deal took place at the Railway Street taxi offices where the defendant worked with his family. Akbar asked for a lift to Nelson and, on the way back, stopped to sell drugs to a girl. The defendant claimed he got charged £8,000 for drugs and got them from Bradford. The prosecutor said it was not suggested Akbar was living a lavish lifestyle. Mr Philip Holden (defending) said it was clear there must be a prison sentence. Akbar had told the authorities he had been dealing for four months even though he did not need to. Mr Holden said Akbar's pre-sentence report described him as rather hapless, unable to face responsibility, unsophisticated and uncomplicated. |

It says taxi worker....so this could mean telephonist, operator, PH driver, HC driver, HC proprietor. And if he just works in a taxi office and the taxi office is HC and therefore unlicensed....I suppose theres nothing to stop him working in the same taxi office in the future selling to whoever he wants. CC |

The brother of one of my drivers has been suspected of doing a bit of drug dealing on the side and it annoys the hell out of me when he lends him his car (radio removed) at night

They now have these clever machines that can detect even the smallest bit of drugs left in a car. Then they will keep the car for a week to completely blitz it.

I remember a couple of years ago they tested for the slightest traces of drugs in the toilets of a number of pubs in our city centre and nearly all were proved positive.So you are spot on when you say that it can have came from the punters clothes.. I have even found a few dodgy looking pill things in my car at the end of a shift and binned them so god knows what the tests would find if they checked our rear seats... |

The first thing that is usually tested is the steering wheel for cocaine. They just need a special wipe and I have been told that if traces of cocaine are found it shows up blue, I think. Anyway how do most users take the stuff? Snorted through a banknote. What happens to this banknote? It gets given to the taxidriver on the way home. Taxi driver puts the note in his wallet and holds the steering wheel therfore he must be a drugs dealer.
