Man's ear and finger ripped off



A MAN had his finger and ear ripped off after getting trapped in a speeding taxi in Manchester city centre.

Police said the 35-year-old was dragged along the floor when he become trapped in the black cab's door.

The victim shouted for the driver to stop, and Greater Manchester Police said the driver "must have known" what was happening.

At about 4.45am on Saturday the man got into the taxi on Sackville Street at its junction with Whitworth Street.

He asked the driver how much the fare would be, and then got out when he realised he did not have enough money. He approached the driver's door to speak to him further, but trapped his hand in the door and the taxi drove off.

The victim ran alongside the cab but could not keep up and was dragged on the ground.

The man had to have is right index finger amputated, but his ear was reattached at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Detective Constable Tom Willis said: "This is an awful incident and the victim is completely in shock about what has happened.

"Despite shouting for the taxi to stop it continued to speed away and the driver must have known this man was trapped.

"It happened in a busy area of the city centre, and we really need anyone who thinks they might have witnessed this to come forward immediately."

Another punter having a go at a cabbie! How did he get himself trapped in the door? Did the cabbie try to make a getaway from a threatening punter? Watch out for the next exciting installment - keep us posted on this one.

Is there a press report on this one ? I would also be interested to know how often attacks on cabbies happen in Manchester maybe the driver thought he was about to be attacked thats why he speeded up ?

Manchester police said the driver is easily recognisable... he has a distinctive necklace that he wears
