BBC pay £ 46k taxi bill daily

BBC staff are spending an astonishing £ 46,000 A DAY on taxis.

It added up to £ 17million -or £ 740 a head for all employees in the last 12 months for car hire.

The BBC is facing up to 2,800 job cuts in an efficiency drive.

The figures also showed one staffer -chief operating officer Caroline Thomson - spent £ 17,000 on cabs.

The top ten most senior executives racked up £ 50,000 cab fares between them.

And staff claimed £ 24.5million in expenses during the period -equivalent to £ 1,000 each.

Chairman Sir Michael Lyons warned yesterday that no area of the BBC is safe from efficiency cuts. He said: "There are no protected areas. If you can do things more effectively in any area, you have to make savings."

BBC bosses blame cuts on a smaller than expected licence fee rise.

If they scraped the TV licence and became commercial they would not be in this boat
it would be cheaper to employ a few drivers full time, and lease there own vehicles

As a former freelance employee of "Auntie" I can take issue with some of the comments made by other members. However, outside expenses are essential in any business. There are always those who will criticise no matter what but cost- effectiveniss speaks for itself. 8)

The more they spend on the taxi/PH trade the better.

It's about time too. :D

If they had asked me to do a job, and didn't pay, then off down to the small claims court.

Or maybe Watchdog.

I would have gone to the small claims with it. It's hardly your fault if their admin is complicated. They still owe you the dough. Try telling them you are not paying your TV licence because they didn't apply for the money the way you like! See what the reaction is then
