TESTING TIME FOR TAXI DRIVERS
New taxi drivers will be tested on local routes and face English and maths tests when they try and get licences.
From next May, Lincoln City Council officers will grill new drivers on routes in Lincoln, from pubs and clubs to museums and restaurants - and charge them for the privilege.
Drivers will also have to pass tests in English and maths, as well as undergo health checks.
Council officers say the exams will not be as tough as The Knowledge, the London taxi cab test which requires drivers to have an encyclopedic understanding of city roads.
Taxi drivers told the Echo that a minority of unscrupulous drivers were giving the business a bad name and gave a thumbs-up to the proposals.
