taxi drivers booked by police last night in warrington for performing the turn in the road manouevre, drivers have performed this practice in the town centre main night time rank bridge st for over 10 years for accessing the taxi rank only to find themselves with a ticket last night. |

the three point turn ( or turn in the road using forward and reverse gears) is a part of the DSA taxi and ph driving test

Our main rank is normally accessed and often exited by performing a three point turn I would be VERY Interested to find out why it was deemed illegal there as the same might happen here ! |

I suppose it all depends on when and where it was done. Was it a busy road?

Always check the mirror first ,in case there is someone behind

Within the driving test you must decide whether or not is is safe to carry out any procedure. Many years ago, during my driving test, I refused to do a "turn in the road" as I could find no safe place on the road to do one ............... and I passed without doing one. So, if I got a ticket for turning in the road, using forward and reverse gears, I would argue that with all my experience I considered it safe to do so. B. Lucky

Oh, and I would add that turning in that area had become "constant and practice" over the past 10 years. B. Lucky

i was pulled by T5 traffic cop doing a 3 point turn a few years ago, he considered it dangerous practice, he said it could be bookable as CD20 Driving without reasonable consideration for other road users the only reason i got off it was that i queried, "where did you come from", he made an illegal no right turn to catch me up and he admitted he was also in the wrong |

The trouble in this job is that most drivers want to be first back to the rank and will take a lot of risks in getting there or maybe i am exagerrating a bit .
The same thing happens here quite often when drivers want to get onto a rank on a busy road.Cars coming up the road decide to do a 3 point turn in a hurry to beat the cars coming down the road to join the rank. This creates absoloute bedlam as one car is left skewwiff across the whole road and blocks it to all traffic No wonder the coppers get p"ssed off and then tar us all with the same brush and decide to have a clampdown
The trouble in this job is that sometimes it is greed and sometimes it is because one driver has an axe to grind with another driver.Maybe, just maybe we will all stick together one day and be in harmony and have one loud voice .
H/C or P/H we are all the same class and doing the same job at the end of the day......and putting up with the same sh"t
It may not happen in my lifetime, but i do believe that the day will come when there is only a taxi and not a H/C or P/H as we have now.I think the nucleus of this is happening already in most areas ,but some wont admit it....

Half the time we do it because some jerk in the back says it is 10p more if you go up the road to do it properly.

I see that once again McTaxi is being (like all self respecting Scots) a little frugal with the full facts. First of all the police presented a report voicing their concerns to the LA and the trade over 12 months ago. It was pointed out to them that provision for turning in this busy thoroughfare had been provided via a mini roundabout in a section closed to public vehicles. Here there is also significantly fewer pedestrians due to the reduced flow of people moving between bars. So whats the problem I can hear some of you more inquisitive souls ask? Answer, it's 50m down the road. That's metres not miles, (although some of our more circuitous hackney drivers may indeed cover 50 miles to make this manouvre!) Furthermore the police did hire one the bread van driving colleagues of McTaxi to demonstrate the ease of the turn at said roundabout and issued a warning that patience was wearing thin and tickets may be issued if the trade didn't take the opportunity to address the issue in house. I'm not sure whether McTaxi, who was at that meeting, is too thick to understand a simple warning/threat, or WTDA are looking to make an issue out of this and flex their muscle in a direct two fingers to the police? Let's be clear about this, there is no need to turn in the road where they do. The solution is within their limited understanding and comrehension but who knows? Just one further point raised by gusmac. You can only start the meter once. If you do it half a mile from the rank how can tou then do it as you pass the rank to turn round? Watch this space!!! |

Presumably you pass the rank on the opposite side of the road after turning at the roundabout? Don't switch on the meter until you pass the rank on the way back. Ok you get 100 meters less on your fare but it will stop the complaints from your punters about overcharging. (50m to the roundabout + 50m back = 100m. Where does the half a mile come in?)
If the complaints don't bother you then ignore the advice. |
