| Post subject: | Bucks Taxis taken off the road after pre-Christmas checks |
Just goes to show who does the enforcing of vehicles, certainly not licensing officers who aren't qualified to inspect vehicles. "Are you listening Newcastle and Sefton"? ___________________________ Bucks Herald November 30, 2007 Taxi taken off the road after pre-Christmas checks ONE taxi has been taken off the road and six were found to have mechanical defects after a pre-Christmas taxi check was carried out in Aylesbury on Monday. With the assistance of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), 18 taxis were directed to the police station during the day and inspected. A range of checks were carried out on the drivers and the condition of their vehicles. Out of these 18 vehicles, one was taken off the road for immediate repairs, six were given delayed prohibition notices due to mechanical defects, nine others were given advisory notices for lesser defects and two vehicles were defect-free. During the operation two fixed penalty notices were issued. The vehicles were a mix of hackney carriages and private hire cars. Sergeant Dominic Mahon, of Aylesbury Roads Policing, who led the safety checks said: "I am happy to see that there was only one vehicle in such a condition that it had to be taken straight off the road. "All the drivers co-operated fully with us and were properly licensed. We know taxi drivers perform an essential function in Aylesbury and this operation was aimed at supporting drivers and firms that uphold the highest standards while educating or prosecuting the minority who do not. "Monday's results were very encouraging compared to previous checks and it shows that the standard of taxi and private hire vehicles in Aylesbury is improving." Taxi Licensing Officer, Peter Seal, from Aylesbury Vale District Council said: "These operations are very focused and in the past have yielded disappointed results. However, I believe this last exercise reflects the improving quality of the Vale's taxis and private hire vehicles." ________________________ |
