could they then refuse to insure you, and or encourage other companies to refuse to insure you?

I suppose they can insure, or not, who they like. But if they are spreading rumours that someone is a right pain, then a complaint to the Insurance Ombudsman is due.

The insurance ombudsman is in the back pocket of the insurance industry i once tried making a complaint against my insurers it got NOWHERE

I can still get insurance with that company because insurance companies are in business to make money complaints are like water off a ducks back to them the things they do get upset about are late/failed payments and drivers who drive with no insurance thats when they start refusing to insure people !
