Woman thrown from taxi cab;

Police are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was thrown out of a taxi and then run over by an on-coming car in Staffordshire.

The 19-year-old woman was ejected from a taxi near the Blacksmiths' Arms pub in Branston, Burton-on-Trent, at about 4.30am on Saturday.

She was then struck by a car travelling in the opposite direction, although Staffordshire Police believe the motorist was unaware that a woman was lying in the road.

Detectives are appealing for the motorist and the taxi driver, along with anyone who was in the area at the time, to contact them on 08453 30 20 10.

Attack on taxi driver

POLICE are hunting a man who launched a violent attack on a taxi driver in his cab.

The 51-year-old driver suffered cuts, scratches and bruises to his face in the incident at the junction of York Road and Barnsley Road.

The fare had been picked up in Doncaster town centre and asked to be taken to Swinton at 11.25pm on Sunday, November 25.

When they arrived in Swinton the suspect had forgotten his house keys and asked the taxi driver to take him back to Doncaster.

During the return journey the man became aggressive, assaulting the taxi driver and causing substantial damage to the taxi.

During the incident, he kicked the barrier to the driver's seat, which smashed, and then he ran off towards the transport interchange tunnel in the town centre.

The suspect was in his mid 20s, 6ft tall and of medium build. He had short, blond spikey hair and was wearing blue jeans and a red short sleeved t-shirt.

Anyone with information about this incident or who may be able to help identify the person in the picture is urged to call Fiona Ginbey on (01302) 385135 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Dreadful tale, but exactly what are drivers meant to do with folks like this?

Apart from not picking them up in the first place. :?

Well it's not clear if she was thrown out, or asked to leave, or fell out.

But if some pi**ed bird started giving you grief at that time of the morning what would you do?

I don't think that I could just leave a girl lying in the road to get run over even if she was pi**ed and troublesome :-|

The driver must have known what had happened

Another illegal perhaps?

What happens if she says she wants to get out, do you/we say no?

What happens if she is spewing up, do you/we allow her back into the car?

Sussex , I have taken many people home in my lifetime without being paid, and I would always hope that I or a member of my family( if )in the same situation would be treated the same, by a professional taxi-driver. life is not always about taking..... or at least I would hope so...

Mr T I agree, and I suspect every person on this site has done likewise, but what happens if they want to get out or spew up?

Do we still insist they stay in the car?

My point is Sussex, as a decent human-being you don't just leave them in the middle of the road to be run over!

I understand what you say you mustn't do, but what do you do?
