Teenage Twins celebrating the birth of a baby hurled racial abuse at a city taxi- driver and scratched his car after a night on the booze.Young mum Christine Woodward told the cabbie that she didn't trust Muslims, and he should go back to his own country, city magistrates were told.

The 19-year-old from Matson Avenue, Gloucester denied charges of racially aggravated abuse and racially aggravated criminal damage, but she was found guilty after a trial in October.

Her twin sister Amanda, also of Matson Avenue and also a young mother, pleaded guilty to similar charges.

Prosecuting solicitor Sharon Jomaa said: "It was around midnight when the defendants were picked up by a taxi in Park Road.

"Christine Townsend said that she didn't trust Muslims and the driver stopped the vehicle and asked them to leave.

"Both defendants shouted abuse at the driver and told him to leave the country and go back to his own country.

"They both then kicked the side of the taxi and the driver called the police.

"There was only minor damage to the taxi - dents and scratches to the wing and door."

Defending solicitor Steve Woodward said: "They had been celebrating and drunk rather more than they should have done.

"This was clearly a very unpleasant incident."

The chairwoman of the bench said: "A taxi-driver is offering a service to the public, and to issue racist remarks is totally unacceptable."

Christine Woodward was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work and pay the taxi-driver £75 compensation.

Her sister was given a curfew order for three months and also ordered to pay £75 compensation.[/b]
