Harborough Mail November 15, 2007 Sex attack info plea DETECTIVES investigating a near three-month-old unsolved sex attack on a 28-year-old woman near Great Glen have issued a photofit of the suspect. The incident happened on Monday, August 27, but police only released details on Wednesday last week. The sex assault took place at about 2.30am after the victim had been out with friends in Leicester and got a "taxi" home at about 2.11am from Churchgate in the city centre. The "driver" sexually assaulted her on a farm track near Great Glen. She was then driven back to Saffron Lane, Leicester. The offender is described as driving a black Metrocab-style taxi, and having an olive complexion, stubble, aged between 40 and 50, about 5ft 9in tall, of chubby build, with short, dark greasy hair which was combed back. He was wearing a long-sleeved white shirt. DC Nick Freeman, investigating, said: "We have been following a number of lines of inquiry since then to identify the offender, including liaising with the taxi licensing department at Leicester City Council and now need the public's assistance." Asked by the Mail why the public had not been informed earlier, a police spokesman said: "The release of information about crime has to be balanced against the need to ensure that police enquiries are not jeopardised. In this particular case, officers had a potentially identifiable suspect almost immediately. Numerous enquiries were undertaken in the weeks following the crime and as a result of that work the man has very recently been eliminated from the police investigation. As that is now the case, we were able to release the e-fit to the media this week without jeopardising the police enquiry."
