Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint

A taxi driver was robbed at knife point after picking up two passengers in
Kings Heath, Northampton.

The passengers asked to be driven to Far Cotton and when the taxi came
to the junction of Pleydell Road and Forest Road, they threatened the
driver for money and brandished knives.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "When they reached Far
Cotton the passengers asked the driver to stop.

"Both then produced knives, threatened and demanded money from him,
stealing cash, his wallet and mobile phone and the sat nav from the car
before running off.

"The victim was unhurt."

Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the taxi, a
blue Vauxhall Astra, in the area and who may have seen the two robbers
running away from the scene on Tuesday evening.

They were both black, and in their early 20s, and are thought to have run
off in the direction of Towcester Road.

They had been picked up in Kings Heath at about 7.20pm and the theft
happened shortly afterwards.

Anyone with information can call police on 08453 700700.
