'ADDICTED' DRIVER HIT BY LIFE BAN A limo driver was put off the road for life after being caught behind the wheel while banned - for the fourth time. Serial offender James McKinnon's solicitor said his client had been getting aversion therapy for his "addiction to driving". But the 54-year-old, who was taking passengers out for an Aberdeen pleasure ride in a white limousine, was yesterday jailed for eight months. Police got a tip off that the grandad had picked up passengers and was driving round the city in the luxury car on May 9 last year, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard. They spotted the 54-year-old driving off from Aberdeen's Clifton Road and followed the car. Minutes later the officers stopped the limo to find McKinnon driving with three passengers in the back. Depute fiscal John Richardson yesterday told the court: "During his interview he confirmed he was driving the vehicle as a limousine hire and that he was aware he was disqualified and therefore not insured to drive the vehicle." Defence agent John McLeod said McKinnon, who keeps poor health, had a string of convictions for driving while banned. Mr McLeod also said his client cares for his four-year-old granddaughter. He also told the court that McKinnon was still working with the limo firm but in an administration role only, and that it had been four years since his last conviction. McKinnon, whose address was given in court as 41a Summerhill Drive, Aberdeen, admitted driving on the city's Clifton Road while disqualified and without insurance. Sheriff Colin Harris jailed McKinnon for eight months and banned him from driving for the rest of his life. |

Will the prison sentence be a deterrent for when he's released? After all he has been banned four times before and it would seem he was perfectly happy to carry on driving. |
