Luton Today January 28, 2008 Taxi drivers join police in hunt for rapist DNA samples taken as investigation tightens Officers from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit have asked Luton and Dunstable drivers to help in the investigation of two serious sexual assaults. Both attacks happened towards the end of last year as the young victims attempted to make their way home. The first assault was between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on November 30 when a 15-year-old Dunstable girl was out with friends and had accepted a lift from a taxi driver in Summerleys, Eddlesborough. The youngster got into the vehicle believing she was going to be taken to a friend's but the driver drove to Totternhoe Knolls where he raped her before taking her back to Eddlesborough. The second assault happened during the early house of Saturday, December 15, when a 22-year-old woman got into a taxi outside Cubes night club, Dunstable, with another man. After dropping the other passenger in Stopsley, the woman asked to be taken home to the Lewsey Farm area. But the taxi driver took her to an unknown location and raped her before leaving her in Lewsey Farm. Detectives believe the two attacks were linked and on Friday spoke to taxi drivers who may have been working on the two evenings and also asked for DNA samples to eliminate them from the investigation. Det Insp Steve Keating said he would like to directly appeal to a man who has a bald head and is in his 40s who got out of the taxi in Summerleys on November 30 before the victim got in to it. "It is important to this investigation that this man comes forward to speak to the police - he is not in any trouble but he could hold vital information relating to the identity of the taxi driver," he said. Anyone with information about the assaults can contact Det Insp Steve Keating, in confidence, on 01707 355666, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111. __________________________ |

This was on my local news last night . . . considering the D.I that was interviewed could only say it was a black car with sliding doors, there seems to be a lot of emphasis on it being a local taxi? All of the Luton PH car's have roof signs, and as we all know Luton only license LTI or the E7 as taxi's. Similarly it could be Mr Al-Shaz-rapeu out in his private car. |

All of the Luton PH car's have roof signs, and as we all know Luton only license LTI or the E7 as taxi's. Similarly it could be Mr Al-Shaz-rapeu out in his private car. The chances are he could be anyone but some of the comments would lead us to believe that at least he is a cab driver of sorts? Such as one bald headed passenger alighting from the vehicle before the second rape victim got in. Regards JD |
