Passenger was offering sex in taxi back seat
A taxi driver accused of kidnapping a female passenger and sexually
assaulting her told a court she propositioned him.
Mohammed Hussain said the woman pulled her top down as she sat in the
back of his taxi and asked him if he was interested.
Taking the stand at Portsmouth Crown Court Hussain, 33, denied locking
the 20-year-old woman in his cab and sexually assaulting her in the back
of the vehicle.
He said the woman told him to drive to the seafront where they engaged
in consensual sexual activity.
Hussain added: 'She said to me, "I know you are married but are you
interested?"
'I could not give an answer because I was shocked and couldn't believe
what she had said.
'She told me to find a quiet place. I was thinking where should we go. It
was her idea.
'She gave the directions to me
and we parked just opposite the Royal Marines Museum.
'I turned the engine off and got in the right-hand side passenger door.'
Hussain told the jury that he stopped kissing the woman because he began
to think of his wife.
He said he apologised to the woman, got into the driver's seat and drove
her home.
When asked by his barrister, William Mousley, how he felt afterwards
Hussain said: 'I felt like I had broken my wife's trust. I was just thinking
about my wife.
'I have never done anything like this before. It was a stupid decision.'
Prosecutors say that Hussain locked the young woman in his taxi as she
was about to get out and drove her to the seafront where he sexually
assaulted her.
On Tuesday the woman broke down in tears as she gave evidence.
Hussain, of Wykeham Avenue, North End, Portsmouth, denies one count of
kidnap and one count of assault by penetration.
