21 Feb 2008 Kirkby taxi driver robbed at gunpoint A KIRKBY taxi driver was threatened and robbed at gunpoint after he dropped off a passenger in Nottingham on Monday. The 61-year-old man, who works for Oasis Taxis on Lowmoor Road, was asked to drop off a man in Argyle Street in Radford just before 10am. When they arrived the suspect produced a black handgun and made off with a quantity of money and two mobile phones after threatening the driver, who was left shaken but unhurt. Police desribe the suspect as black, of medium build, aged 24 to 35, around 5ft 10" tall, and clean-shaven. He was wearing a black, hooded waterproof jacket with the hood up and pulled tightly around his face. Before being picked up the suspect stood outside the office and waited for the taxi, and is believed to have spoken to a member of the public who went into the newsagents next door. 23 Feb 2008 Driver's shock at gun drama A KIRKBY taxi driver has spoken of his shock after he was threatened and robbed at gun point as he dropped off a passenger. Lenny Brown (61), who works for Oasis Taxis on Lowmoor Road, was asked to drop off a man on Argyle Street in Radford just before 10am on 18th February. When they arrived, the passenger took out a black handgun and made off with around £230 in cash and two mobile phones after threatening Mr Brown. This week, Mr Brown told Chad he had been left shaken by the terrifying incident, but was determined to carry on with his job. "I thought he was going into his pocket to get money for the fare but instead he pulled out the gun," he said. "I was more shocked than anything else. "I had been expecting him to do a runner because he didn't say anything to me throughout the ride which is unusual. I gave chase after him, but had to give up and I went to call the police. "What happened didn't really hit me until later that night and it made me wonder why I'm doing this job and whether I should give it up because of my wife. "I am back into the swing of things now though, I am OK and I am not going to let this incident put me off my job." Knowing Lenny I thought he'd have more sense than that, I wasn't blessed with knowledge but when it comes to carrying that amount in a car common sense has to kick in. There's loads of places he could have stashed his money. |

29 Feb 2008 Kirkby man charged with robbing taxi driver A KIRKBY man will appear before Nottingham Magistrates Court today charged with robbing a taxi driver and possession of a firearm. Ricardo Anthony Frankson (26), of Chartwell Road, is accused of stealing around £230 and two mobile phones from Lenny Brown after he was dropped off at Argyle Street in Radford on 18th February. Mr Brown, who works for Kirkby firm Oasis Taxis, was left shaken, but unhurt by his ordeal and has since returned to work.
