THE REASON WHY ?

Rainbow have always been apposed to the ''Pay As You Go'' charge, barrier charge, departure charge or whatever BAA want to call it. Since 22nd November 2007 in numerous correspondence Rainbow have informed BAA of this fact.

Rainbow's plan was always to go to the Licensing meeting on Wednesday 27th February and ask the committee to allow drivers to recoup this money from their customers. It is still my intention to do this.

On Monday 18th February Rainbow were asked to attend a meeting with BAA, BAA were unhappy at my comments in the E&E a couple of Saturday's ago.

At this meeting BAA told Rainbow that in future if the press wanted a quote regarding the barrier charges, Rainbow had to ''put them on hold'' and contact BAA's press office who would then TELL us what we could or could not say. Rainbow could issue no statement unless BAA approved its release,'' in a nut shell'' RAINBOW COULD NOT OPPOSE THIS CHARGE, NOR COULD WE ''BAD MOUTH'' BAA !!

THIS WAS UNACEPTABLE TO RAINBOW.

When I asked BAA if we could draw a line under the barrier charge IE BAA would not look to increase this charge, I was informed that the ''charge'' would be reviewed annually.

THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO RAINBOW. Nor did I think it was acceptable to our drivers, or any driver.

I have this afternoon spoken to the ''top man'' at ComCab in Aberdeen, I asked him if ComCab were still against the barrier charge ? He said yes if there was another way !

Not sure what that meant I then asked him that if the trade were to start a campaign to challenge BAA and their charge, would ComCab stand with us ?

NO WAS THE ANSWER

Am I missing something ? DOES THE TRADE WANT TO FIGHT THIS CHARGE ?

ComCab have sold the rest of the trade down the river, just to win a contract. A contract they could have had on their terms, there was no competition.

Is this what our trade has come to ? Are ComCab's drivers happy to pay without even a SQUEAK ?

And before anyone thinks this is ''sour grapes'' remember Rainbow withdrew from the contract, IT WAS OUR CHOICE.

Thank you Mr skippy41.

And if anyone requires evidence as to why big business treats this trade as it does, all one has to do is to read that post. :-s

Skippy's post is quoting Russell McLeod, Managing Director of Rainbow Taxis.

I applaud Russell's decision.
He has refused to be gagged by BAA and won't watch his drivers being shafted.
It's a pity others can't see things the same way.

Many people who work Airports and stations etc just lie down and soak up the charges without offering any resistance at all. I don't know how the operation works in Aberdeen but if the Trade is not 100% united then the actions of Rainbow Cars is probably fruitless. This has been highlighted by the stand Com Cabs have taken and who will no doubt probably benefit from the actions of Rainbow cars.

There will always be those willing to profit by excluding other drivers from certain Taxi ranks including Airports and stations as we can lay testament to on this website.

Although this company has taken a brave stand they may well find that some of their drivers who are used to working the Airport will follow he who holds the contract and that I'm afraid is part of human nature.

I wish there were more people in the Taxi trade like this gentleman but sadly that is not the case.

Regards

JD

As the Scottish parliament has recently abolished tolls in Scotland, These airport charges could be considered tolls as well, due to barriers being in place.
All airports charge for parking, but taxis are not parking are they???
