Southport's taxi rank marshals hailed a success
AN initiative to encourage responsible behaviour at a Southport taxi rank
has been hailed a success, and will now continue over the coming months.
The pilot taxi marshalling service has been running at the Lord Street rank
to tackle anti social behaviour as night time revellers make their way home.
Funded by Sefton’s Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership, the
initiative is run by Sefton Council’s Security Services Team and supported
by Merseyside Police. The trial service started in December.
Councillor Brenda Porter, Sefton’s cabinet member for communities, said:
“We want people to enjoy a good night out – assured in the knowledge
that they will be able to enjoy a safe journey home.”
Dave Ellison, manager of Sefton’s Security Services, said: “A team of
trained and accredited marshals are stationed at the rank at the busiest
times of the night on Friday and Saturday. They ensure that customers
form an orderly queue allowing taxis to quickly pick their up their
customers without having to worry about them rushing to get into the cab.”
