25 Feb 2008 Cabbies robbed at knifepoint A TEENAGER from Whitworth has been arrested after two taxi drivers were robbed at knifepoint in their cabs. The first incident took place after a man hailed a cab from Rochdale to Whitworth at about 7pm yesterday (Sunday). Police said that when the taxi arrived at Eastgate in Whitworth at around 8pm the driver was threatened with a knife and assaulted; the offender made off with about £25. Another similar incident occurred in the town at around 10pm. Detective Sergeant Phil Turner, from Rossendale CID, said: ‘At the end of the journey the taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint and a small amount of cash was taken. ‘Shortly after that another taxi driver was subject to an attack involving a knife and received minor injuries. ‘Following a police search of the area an 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene in relation to the two offences.’ The teenager was today being quizzed by officers.
