26 Feb 2006 Taxi boss worked without a licence A TAXI boss has been found guilty of driving without a licence. Asif Hussain, 35, is part owner of Arrows Taxis, on Bacup Road, Rawtenstall. He is not a licensed hackney carriage driver but was found to be driving a hackney carriage on 8 November last year. Last Wednesday he was found guilty of driving without a licence when he appeared at Rossendale Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £500 and ordered to pay £650 in costs. The court heard that in November 2006 Hussain had had his licence revoked by the council’s Licensing committee for insurance offences. A council spokesperson said: ’Driving without a licence is a matter of public safety. The council takes this issue very seriously and will prosecute anyone found without an appropriate licence. ‘We would urge people that use taxis in Rossendale to make a visible check that a taxi is licensed before they get in one. ‘They can do this by checking that there is a sign on the roof, stickers on the doors and plates on the front and back of the vehicle. ‘The driver should also display their licence in a place where passengers can see it. If you use an unlicensed taxi or an unlicensed taxi driver, you will not be insured for the journey. ‘If someone thinks that a taxi or taxi driver may not be licensed we would encourage them to report it to the licensing unit on 232577 during office hours.’ Source: The Asian News ---------- Disclaimer These press articles are intended for informational purposes only.
