Man threatened taxi driver
A MAN told a taxi driver he would "slit his throat" while clutching a kitchen knife.
On Monday, Banbury Magistrates' Court heard Harwinder Sangha, 36, of
Samuelson Court in Banbury, made the threat on his doorstep after the
driver called at his home.
The driver had knocked on the door after receiving a booking from
Sangha's flatmate and when Sangha answered, he was holding the knife.
The court was told Sangha may have had the knife for self harming
purposes and had taken medical and illegal drugs the day of the incident.
Although he threatened the driver, he did not brandish the knife, which
remained in his hand with the blade facing the floor.
At an earlier hearing, Sangha was convicted of intimidating behaviour in his absence.
During sentencing, District Judge Brian Loosely said of the taxi driver: "He
must have been scared out of his skin."
He then imposed a community order requiring Sangha to be subject to a
12 month supervision requirement and a six month drug rehabilitation requirement.
