TAXIMAN TRIAL BACK TO COURT
A JURY yesterday failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a taxi driver accused of running over a city centre reveller.
The Belfast Crown Court jury deliberated for four-and-a-half hours before telling Judge Patrick Lynch QC they could not reach either a unanimous or majority verdict in the case of John Huston.
Huston, 53, from Chapel Lane in Castlewellan, Co Down, faces a charge of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving on January 28, 2006.
The court heard Fergal Heaney had got out of a taxi beside Belfast City Hall and was crossing the road when he was struck.
Prosecutors said they "would have to take instructions" regarding any further potential trial and the case was adjourned until next.
