10 years for fiend who raped woman, 52
A SEX fiend who raped a woman while her husband slept in an adjoining room was today jailed for 10 years.
George Murphy, 42, then stole GBP800 from the victim's bank account after taking her bank cards.
At the High Court in Glasgow, temporary judge Michael O'Grady QC told him: "You have been convicted of an appalling course of conduct towards this woman."
He ordered that Murphy's sentence should start at the end of the sixyear sentence he is serving for robbery and indecent assault committed in England.
Murphy was convicted after trial of raping the woman - who can't be named - stealing her mobile phone and bank cards and taking GBP800 from cash machines.
The court heard the woman had gone for a night out with a friend in Glasgow in September 2005.
During the evening they came across Murphy, who helped the woman get a taxi at the end of the night.
Murphy went in the cab with her to her home in Glasgow's South Side and when she opened the door he walked in.
The traumatised woman told how Murphy, from Anfield, Liverpool, pushed her on to a bed and raped her.
She told him she didn't want to have sex but Murphy ignored her pleas.
Her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, was asleep next door.
Afterwards, Murphy stole her mobile phone and bank cards, which had the Pin numbers noted nearby.
The woman reported the rape to police the next day after telling her friend and sister what had happened.
Solicitor advocate Tony Quinn, defending, said:
"My client never disputed the charges of stealing the bank cards and taking money."
During the trial, Murphy claimed he did not rape the woman and insisted she had agreed to have sex with him.
His victim was not in court today but there were cries of "yes" from her family as Murphy was sentenced.
