The Dundee Taxi Association are officially dead ! After calling a meeting last night to hindering future progress in Dundee, by challenging Dundee City Council's new policy of all vehicles to be M1 Spec. A total of 25 die hards appeared at the meeting and, the drivers who attended were told by the Transport And General Workers Union Soilcitor that unless they were members of the Union, they were unable to receive legal representation. After discussing ways to re-introduce the Fiat Doblo onto the list of approved vehicles ( in order to reduce the cost of making the transition ) the meeting was closed. So, into the night dissapeared the 25 knowing only to well the Doblo will never be re-introduced, and that their Association will never hold or command any future respect from the Trade in Dundee. These are the guys who have fed both their members and the Council ( at Liasion Meetings ) mis-leading information through the years in order to maintain their hackney saloon car status, and halt the progress of the Trade. So, it's a big farewell to Dad's Army ! their days of hiring out plates and stopping the younger, more professional, legal Operator, who holds the interest of his chosen Trade with utmost respect are OVER..

When I started reading that post I got the impression you had the hump with the decision, but at the end it appears I was (not for the first nor last time) wrong. As for only a few drivers turning up, well that's the norm in this game.

Poor leadership is the problem with DTA, they have fought all the wrong battles and won zilich. The trade should have an organisation that at the very least is represented by competent people who have vision and an understanding of how the law affects the trade, so far we have not had that. Instead of taxi rank lawyers listening to tittle tattle and being caught up in the 203020 we hate Davy Young debacle they should have organised and had debate with the council instead of continually being at war with them to the extent the council got so fed up of them they have now put us firmly in our place and we are now sweating on the fact our saloon cars being replaced by wav's,this my dear cabbies is what our esteemed leadership have led us into. While they were led a merry dance by "Wheelchair Eric the Red Thorson I'm on your side guys we really have to stick together to rid the trade of that big bad company 203020," then what does he do, stick the knife right in our backs by presenting at the liason meeting his blueprint for all taxis to be wav,oh ya f....r Eric has extracted the water right out of our esteemed leaders. So hopefully there maybe some intelligent cabbies who can restart dialog with the council and get a result for the saloon trade. |

Dear old Mr Dawg, Can we not be honest and admit you have not invested in the trade, the reason you may have £19,000 as a so called investment is only because you cannot get a saloon on the road. I always have a wee chuckle when I see dear old Eric driving his beat up TX2 the same man who started with a private hire then had his hackney saloon. He loves shouting from the rooftops that all taxis should be wav's and not forgetting when he was also private hire demanding they be converted to hackney then close off the town, credibility he has none. Anyway after my wee rant Mr Dawg you should be part of a new taxi fraternity who should campaign for all taxi operators to have the freedom of choice as to what vehicles they put on and only then will we see how many exsisting wav's keep on their wav's,not many I bet. |

Old Hack.......no- one told me to put a wav on just like no-one told you to put a saloon on.........i'm not saying everyone should change........if you want to keep your saloon go to Teles.........Jim "Wilson" Stirling has been talking private hire up as the way forward for years but still taking £78 off idiotic wav operators willy-nilly !! |

Dundee taxi trade civil war looms A civil war was looming within Dundee’s taxi trade today after a rival emerged to the city’s long-standing taxi association (writes Graham Huband). Letters have gone to the city’s 700-plus taxi drivers asking them to vote in a ballot next week in favour of the formation of a new Dundee Taxi Federation. The drivers are also being asked to vote on whether they want the new body to be their sole representative in Dundee. The Dundee Taxi Association is currently the predominant force representing cabbies and liaises with the council over issues affecting the trade. Officials were heavily involved in the dispute with the authority that led to cabbies forming rolling roadblocks around the city centre last year. Dundee Wheelchair Taxi Association and the Dundee taxi section of the TGWU are also usually present at talks. However, the man behind the proposed new federation would like to see the current set-up abolished and replaced by a single body that would have the authority to speak for all drivers. In his mail-out to cabbies, organiser Micky Burns said he hoped for a successful outcome to the ballot and said it would allow drivers to start singing from the same hymn sheet for the first time in many months. He said, “At present the taxi trade in Dundee is represented by various organisations. What I propose is the set-up of a Dundee Taxi Federation which would represent all aspects of the taxi trade. “For this idea to proceed, a secret ballot will take place between Monday and Thursday at Handy Taxis, Caldrum Street. Results will be announced next Friday. “There’ll be two ballots — the first to decide whether there should be a Dundee federation, and the second to decide if the council should recognise the federation as sole representative for all drivers.” The chair of Dundee Taxi Association said the first he had heard of the ballot was when the Tele contacted him today. Graeme Stephen said he could not understand why anyone who had a problem with the way the taxi association — which is due to have its AGM next week — was being run did not make their concerns clear to officials. Mr Stephen said only DTA members had the right to close down the association and he had no expectation they would vote to do so. He said, “I just cannot understand what they are trying to do. If they are not happy why could they not have come and said we don’t think you are doing this, or that, right. “I have taxied in Dundee for 20 years and the DTA was there long before that. “I don’t see how somebody else can close it down, especially if they are not a member.” http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/outpu ... 813t0.shtm |

The idea for the new federation is dead in the water already, apparently they had a target of 900 and only 58 voted. They're blaming scaremongering and apathy and advising drivers to join the T&G instead, which I think is quite a small group at present. http://www.thecourier.co.uk/output/2008 ... 9796t0.asp |

total farce as usual, i got my letter after the federation was cancelled, some got theirs through the post the others had to pick them up from the offices?when i picked mine up i had to sift through loads of unopened letters in the handys box, next to it was the teles box, again full of letters add all the other offices and id think its safe to say 70 per cent not informed, teles put a message on their computers screen when you start up but a lot of drivers dont even read this |
