Jailed for groping passenger

A TAXI tout found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman while giving her a lift home to Welwyn Garden City was given a six-month prison term today.

Dogcan Unuvar, 22, of Green Lane, Haringey was sentenced this afternoon at St Albans Crown Court for assaulting a 28-year-old woman in the early hours of Sunday, January 21 last year.

The court also ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

The assault occurred after the victim and her friend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been enjoying a night out in Stevenage when she was approached by Unuvar and offered a cheap ride home in his van.

The van was travelling along the B1000 near Welwyn Garden City at about 2.45am when Unuvar began groping the victim's legs and breast while he was driving.

The court also heard how he tried to kiss the victim using his tongue before forcing her to touch him.

After a struggle the woman jumped from the van while it was travelling along the dual carriageway to escape Unuvar's advances.

He was convicted in a trial in which a passenger in his van was acquitted of molesting another woman.
