Youngest cabbie waiting for fare
Putney's Casey MacLaren is looking forward to more than just presents
and cards when he turns 21 at the end of the month - London's youngest
ever taxi driver will get his first fare too.
Casey is the youngest person to ever pass "the Knowledge", the famed
test required before anyone can drive one of London's black cabs.
It normally takes four years to pass but Casey did it in just two.
Casey decided to get behind the wheel after seeing both his mum and dad
driving black cabs for years.
He said: "I have seen how my parents are their own bosses and are able
to fit in other responsibilities around working as taxi drivers -it works really well.
"I think it is also a rewarding career which allows you to meet people from
all walks of life, and I am looking forward to taking the wheel."
Thompson, Transport for London's Director of Taxi and Private Hire, said:
"As well as Casey, a young woman of 22 has recently been licensed.
"It gives us so much pleasure to see young people choosing taxi driving as a career.
"We hope they have a career ahead of them."
