Drunken man, 19, broke taxi window

A DRUNKEN customer punched a taxi windscreen so hard it cracked.

Blackburn magistrates heard the driver knew the customer and would not
have involved the police if he could have got an assurance the damage
would be paid for.

Daniel Peter Russett, 19, of Bankside, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to
damaging the windscreen belonging to Mohammed Malik.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay
£65 costs. Richard Prew, defending, said Russett and his father were good
customers of the taxi firm.

The day after the incident father and son had gone to the office and paid
for the damage to the taxi and Russett had apologised for his behaviour.

"Mr Malik told me that if he had been able to contact Mr Russett senior on
the night he would have been happy not to have involved the police."
