Taxis warning
Lancashire Telegraph
TAXI drivers in Rossendale have been told to improve their standards by the local council.
After a series of spot checks, licensing officers found three drivers with unreported convictions including a driver with nine points on his licence and a driver with a breach of the peace' conviction.
Other drivers were given warnings for things including not using a meter, a missing roof sign and a cluttered up boot.
Out of 11 taxis checked two did not have a fire extinguisher and one was missing a first aid kit. Some taxis had broken roof signs, no tariff cards or broken headlights.
Four defect notices were issued and three received warnings.
Coun Peter Steen said: "I must emphasise to taxi drivers and owners that the rules are in place for their benefit as well as their passengers. The council is committed to fulfilling its legal responsibilities. to check taxis to ensure public safety."
