Elderly taxi driver is racially abused

Mariam Ghaemi

Braintree And Witham Times

A thug racially abused one of Braintree's longest serving taxi drivers and wrecked his cab just before he retires.

Russell England, manager at Blue Star Cars in Braintree, said it had been the worst attack the firm had ever seen against one of its employees.

The 65-year-old driver, who did not wish to be named, was called a [edited by admin],' had his vehicle kicked in causing £1, 000 worth of damage and was chased while dropping a man off in Masefield Road, Braintree, on March 9 at about 7pm.

Mr England said his driver "did not deserve" what the "little squirt" did to him - he was an elderly gentleman who had been a Braintree taxi driver for 28 years.

He criticised Braintree police for not having done "anything" and feared the man behind the attack could go out and do it to somebody else.

Mr England said: "It's disgusting. You pick up people off the rank, it's supposed to be a safe place, and you pick up drunks and that in the evening and they really abuse one of your taxi drivers and kick the door in and you report it to the police and they let them go and they could do it to someone else."
