March 20, 2008 Thursday Check limo firms before booking Braintree And Witham Times PARENTS and students booking limousines for their proms are being advised to check the company they choose is properly licensed. PC Harry Sexton, a commercial transport investigator for Essex Police, has written to all schools offering to carry out checks for parents because customers using unlicensed operators cannot be sure that their driver is safe or if the vehicle meets UK legislation. He said: "There are a large number of companies operating limousines that are unlicensed. "Last year we did a three-week check over the prom season. We checked about 100-odd operators and vehicles and found that over 70 were unlicensed." A large number of drivers also had criminal convictions that would prevent them from being licensed. ___________________________ |

I have no problem with this at all. The biggest problem is that some of the people that book a limousine are the same when it comes to cabs and anything else for that matter. They are only interested in the price, not if the people are licensed. |

I think 70% unlicensed limos is a telling factor. If this is echoed throughout the country then someone somewhere is not doing their job properly? Are you listening David Farmer? Regards JD |

Let's face it he has more chance of catching a wrong'n by doing that than by any other way of catching any other crook. I bet his 'return on capital' is the best in the UK force.

Bring PC SEXTON to Plymouth, Plymouth needs a good copper like this to sort out some of the unlicensed brigade down here, dont get me wrong the majority down here are licensed, however there are still a few who are not but Plymouth still remains a sleepy town as far as Police and VOSA checks are concerned, bring it on please!!!!! |
