Seen a document today re: negotiations for Newcastle railway station permits.

It appears a 4 year deal has been done between the unions/associations and National Express, who run the route, for permits to be set at a rate of £1,600 a year, with an annual increase of inflation +4%.

So in four years time it will be over two f***ing grand.

Well, in Plymouth you have to run for Plymouth Taxi's LTD who bought the rights to the station.

To just work the station is I believe £60 a week so that's over 3 grand a year.

Off their fu*king heads

What?

You pay the LA, for a licence to provide a service to the public. Then you pay a permit to private company for the privilege of providing that very same service to the same public.

Or did I miss something

Skull is right, why should any of us pay.
The punters will still require a cab and if they cannot get one inside the station they will flag one down outside, or go to the nearest rank.
Why do some of you fall over yourself to pay for the privilege of picking up, when as Skull says you have already been riped off by the council
Stand up to them refuse to pay they need you more than you need them

We shouldn't, but someone will always take advantage.

Both inside and outside of the trade.

Here’s an interesting concept: why don’t you charge National Express a fee for providing a service?

Every time you pick up at the station, National Express pays the driver a £1?

I don't see them laughing at their southern most terminal.

It would be interesting to see them try and introduce a charge at Kings Cross.

Ah, so it's only the thick Geordies that pay, now I get the picture.

I wonder if the Geordies are related to the thick er*ehols we have up here that pay to work the train stations and the Airport?

A genetic link perhaps?

You have no idea about the recent history regarding the station permits at Newcastle.

Go find out about the activities of the past 5 years, the threats and actions that have been undertaken ................................. and then come back and voice your opinion.

Why do you think NE wouldn't try and introduce the charge at Kings Cross?

My bet it is that, GBC, and his bunch of merry men  wouldn't stand for it . The public are not there to be sold as a commodity and it's their right to exercise their freedom of choice unhindered, not to be sold like sheep to the slaughter.
