It has been announced that policemen in central London will be wearing a hat camera.
This idea was first trialed by my father big Jim and his friend Thomas, in an attempt to show the authorities the level of touting going on in the centre of the capital. Although the camera could not be detected in plain view they became the butt of many jokes from his colleagues and was also quite unfairly criticised by a driver on this forum. But they persevered and as a result sent many interesting videos to TFL and London assembly members.
The best result was a field visit to regent street with Councillors from Westminster. To our amazement the borough commander for West end central turned up to be seen along side the Councillors. After the visit Peter Hulme Cross A.M. worked closely with the pair and was instrumental in a report on touting given to the London assembly just before the Mayoral elections.
So now you will have to watch what you say to plod as the camera also features a capacity to record sound.
It would be useful if every cab driver had a hat cam, some of the comments I have received from police officers would see them out on their ear if recorded and published on youtube.

Every little helps, but you have to wonder why the councils/police don't use the zillions of CCTV cameras to prosecute the touts?

Maybe it's because there are so many of them they would then clog the courts for years. :?

Thats exatly right.
When you think about it. If they don't arrest touts they can say they have no problem with touting in the West End. Once they start prosecuting touts they will find they do not have the staff or the time to process all the summonses

No wonder the ex minicab, now licensed PH, trade are taking over.

Leave the black cab trade to fight one another, and gradually take all their work whilst they do. :-$

As he said Mr S, he does'nt represent anyone bar himself and the LCDC. . . and thats the way it will stay.

If you knew the amount of fighting and threats that circulate within the LCDC, you'd understand his line of thinking . . . and that's why they represent under 900 London taxi drivers. :-$
