Cab Owners Resist Green Plans 14th September 2008 The famous taxis of New York City were always going to maintain their yellow paintwork, but plans to turn them green on the inside has led to protests among a number of taxi owners. Under a plan outlined by the city, every new taxi must get be able to travel at least 100km on just 7.8litres of petroleum by 2012 - this is a target that can only be met by hybrid and clean diesel cars. However, a group of taxi owners has hit out at the proposals suggesting that they compromise safety and are unconstitutional. The Metropolitan Taxicab Board of Trade, which is an association that accounts for around a quarter of the city’s 13,000 yellow cabs, filed its complaint with the Manhattan Federal Court and is seeking an injunction to halt the regulation. Currently however, the green plans continue and there are around 1,400 hybrid taxis in the city already. Source; TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk |

I amongst several other people am fed up of hearing about 'green issues' but on the other hand if you can go further on less fuel surely that has to better for the 'wallet issues'..... perhaps it's because of the impact on the 'wallet issues' in the first place that is causing resistance |
