It was last Wednesday afternoon the TX4 problems started to get serious. We heard from LTI publically on Monday and from the PCO, since then nothing. Only the LTDA are updating when you contact them. How long does it take to strip a vehicle down. A Day ????? We have the Italian Manufacturers, Channel Tunnel Fire Investigators, PCO's own people, all looking at it and finding nothing. The PCO can't do a u-turn and say its okay back to work So what next ? For me after 30/40 phone calls trying to find a cab to rent its decision time. It looks like I have to go and buy a brand new vito with four/five week wait or a second hand fairway/tx1. No point touching a TX2. Anyone else thinking likewise ??? Be Lucky Paul |

Those driving the Merc must have had a bit of a drop in takings. People don't know it's a cab, so don't flag it down. |

Funny you should say that twice this week i've seen punters on the street looking for a cab ignore 2 vito's both with their hire lights beaming only to be blanked and a "recognisable"shaped cab has trapped the fare! 
The trouble with this vito is apart from the hire light thay are not unrecognisable from the thousand's of mini scabs that use them, thats why until they adapt the shape to be more "taxi" characteristic i wouldn't even contemplate getting one as much as i despise LTI and it's garage's

That's because they are new. People will adapt as they get used to them.. |

Perhaps if the Veto was removed from the PH list of acceptable vehicles (thats if they have one) things could be different Or even have a larger or wider top light fitted |

Or even have a larger or wider top light fitted It would be a start, but the compensation the private hire would demand to change their vehicles could be too great

Not quite as much as those driving 56 and 07 reg TX4s. |

Back then people walked past me on ranks because they were all used to saloon cars. The drivers behind used to point them back to my cab, which most got into. There were a few who point blank refused but not nowadays. Aberdonians soon got used to the WAVs, as Londoners will get used to the Mercs and anything else that gets approved. |

Anyone else thinking likewise ??? Mines fine, I've not had any problems except an alternator, neither did the previous owner. 
M & O, and KPM are doing them with 3 year warranties at the moment, although I can see demand going up for the TX2 with the current mess. I think the timing chain tensioner is the main fault, I intend to replace mine for £350 every two years regardless, which in my opinion is money well spent for peace of mind. |

I love my 2002 "2" up until last week in five years Ive had a starter motor and egr valve thats it! although no problems were apparent (140,000 miles) i decided to have a complete timing gear replacement (not just the chain) ie chain, all drive sprockets, guides and main tensioner, also while stripped a new cover, belt and tensioner total cost £650 from Hexagons E1 A different cab! and a smashing job! If I were to invest in a newer cab it would be another 06/56 TX2, with a Hexagons conversion! |
