Three women and man assault and rob female taxi driver

A female taxi driver was assaulted and robbed by three women and a man in a layby on the A43 in Northamptonshire.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident on Sunday morning when the 35-year-old driver was forced to drive the four around the western side of the county before they assaulted her and stole cash.

They were picked up from Bridge Street, Weedon, at approximately 2.30am.

The vehicle drove from the Weedon area, possibly in the direction of Brigstock, before stopping in a lay-by northbound on the A43, near to Milton Malsor in Gayton at approximately 4.45am.

One of the offenders used an object to hit the driver over the head before stealing £120.

The offenders made off in a vehicle that was parked in the lay-by.

The woman suffered cuts to her head and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police say a T-registered red van was parked in the lay-by at the time of the robbery and are appealing for the driver of that vehicle to contact them, along with any other vehicles that were parked in the lay-by or passed by at approximately 4.45am.

The first offender was described as a white man, aged between 20 and 25, of a stocky build, approximately 5ft 6in, and was clean-shaven with short hair.

The second offender was described as a white female, aged between 20 and 25, of a heavy build, approximately 5ft 6in, with shoulder length blonde hair.

The third offender was described as a white female, aged between 20 and 25, approximately 5ft 6in, of a stocky build, with shoulder length black hair.

The fourth offender was described as a white female, aged between 20 and 25, of a slim to medium build, between 5ft 3in and 5ft 4in, with blonde shoulder length feathered hair, and was wearing makeup and high healed shoes or boots.

The taxi was a blue Peugeot 406, registration number Y134 CCW.

Sergeant Julie Gallagher said: "We would like to speak with anyone who saw this vehicle in the early hours.

"This is a very unusual incident and we continue to work very closely with Taxi Watch."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 08453700700 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
