Limo Ablaze In Hooley As Party Goers Enjoy A Hot Night Out 1st October 2008 Revellers on a hot night out got more than they expected when their stretch limo caught fire, shocking residents with 15ft flames. Seven party-goers were making their way home in the early hours of Sunday morning when the brand-new £60,000 stretch limousine they were travelling in went up in flames in Brighton Road, Hooley. The City Stretch Limo chauffeur realised he had to evacuate the merry bunch, travelling from Brighton to Clapham, when he noticed smoke rising from the fuse box behind his seat and immediately pulled up opposite the Esso garage in Brighton Road, shortly before the car burst into flames. Osie Yates, owner of City Stretch Limos, said: "The first thing I wanted to know was that everyone was OK and, when I established that, you can imagine how I felt. The car is only four months old, so something like that shouldn't be happening. It's £60,000 that went up in flames at the weekend. I was gutted." One shocked lad from the car ran to the petrol station and asked the cashier to call the fire brigade, but despite fire crews arriving in five to 10 minutes, huge flames erupted from the vehicle and its interior melted. Esso cashier Prabu Rajan said: "The limo stopped opposite the garage at about 3am, and at that point there was just a little bit of smoke coming from the car, but before long there was loads of smoke coming out of the windows and everywhere. "Everyone was standing by the car and then it burst into flames. "They were really high. It was very scary." Rob Rice, a Brighton Road resident and former chauffeur, said: "I heard a couple of loud bangs which woke me up, and when I looked out of the window I saw the flames. "They were huge. They must have been at least 15ft high." Fire crews put out the blaze in about 10 minutes. City Stretch Limos sent another car to pick up the revellers and take them home to Clapham Common, leaving the burnt-out party car to be collected the following day. Source; thisissurreytoday.co.uk |

I hope he was licensed.
Or maybe the insurance company would hope he isn't, and they need not pay out.
