City Taxi Rank Made More User-friendly

3rd October 2008

The damp and cold weather may be closing in but waiting for a taxi in Cardiff city centre need not be an uncomfortable experience.

A new shelter has opened at the taxi rank in Greyfriars Road and may offer a glimpse of the future.

Officially unveiled by Cardiff council’s executive member for transport Delme Bowen and Shiva Kumar, secretary of the Cardiff Hackney Association, the shelter is an example of what could be to come if taxi ranks are enhanced across the city as part of the proposed blueprint for transport.

Under the scheme, revealed in the Echo this week, the city centre transport network could be transformed to become more user friendly.

Coun Bowen he hoped the new shelter would help the drivers as well as people waiting for a taxi. “With the Christmas party season fast approaching, I hope the shelter will become a central location for drivers to collect fares.”

Mr Kumar said he hoped the shelter was the first of many.

A certain south coast city has a number of new shelters.

Paid for by the local bus shelter advertiser. 8-[
