Burglar jailed for stealing cards


A TAXI driver who stole credit and debit cards from eight homes has been jailed.

Trevor Agnew, 44, broke into two homes in Knutsford and two in Pickmere during his four-month crime spree.

He was eventually caught after he was pictured using one of the cards at a cash machine in Timpeley.

A CCTV camera had been set up near the cashpoint as part of a covert police operation.

A still from the CCTV was published in a newspaper and he was identified by a reader.

Good example “It is a good example of how thorough detective work and co-operation from a newspaper can beat crime,” said PC Gary Turner from the Cheshire Police eastern area burglary unit.

“This man was a persistent burglar who was causing people a lot of distress.”

At Chester Crown Court on Monday, Agnew, of Baguley, Manchester, admitted eight burglaries.

PC Turner said in most cases he broke into the houses while the owners were asleep upstairs.

Agnew was jailed for three years and four months.
