Two pieces of good news for London's traffic.

1.The days of the bendy bus are doomed.TfL are going to replace them on three routes later this year.
See:-http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/7673537.stm

2.Traffic lights are going to be rephrased to help ease congestion.
So far 150 of London's 6,000 sets have been rephrased.
Strange that TfL have announced this plan to reduce congestion but didn't announce the change in timings that created the congestion in the first place...
More at:-http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1078077/Every-traffic-light-London-programmed-drive-cut-jams.html

During the Livingstone years, 2,000 sets of light were introduced with plans for a further 3,000 to be installed in the future.

You're an optimist.

I was listening to the phone in the other night on LBC, apparently the bus replacement to eliminate all of the articulated Bus routes will cost around £70 million pounds.

Given the current climate, I wonder if Boris will be in a position to carry out his pledge?

The problem could be fixed overnight by running about 30% less buses, as most of them seem to run half full, and the of course the usual problems of three in a row all going to the same destination.

Again with the traffic lights, they don't need to be re-phased, just get rid of all the silly unnecessary ones that are 20 yards apart.

Those lights that you hit turning left from Sidney Place into Fulham Road are a joke, if three vehicles get through the junction you'll be doing well.

Don’t even start me on Tooley Street, WTF????

I've noticed Gloucester place has been bad recently too............Earnshaw St could also do with a rephase..........i could go on but can't be arsed!!

Thankfully we now have a mayor who isn't car hating and is prepared to get London moving again..........now if only he would open up the cut through from the Embankment up to High Holborn or at the very least open up St. Bride st again.

When I first became a taxi driver, the job from Charing Cross to Paddington (via The Mall) involved 4 sets of lights.
Now there are 14 sets of lights over three miles.

We also need to return to filter lights at junctions, the left turn filter at Northumberland Ave. onto Vic.Embankment is just one example.

Now we have a mayor who has no vested interest in congestion, indeed wants to eliminate it, maybe LTDA members can suggest improvements to be discussed at TfL level.

The T&G,of course supported Livingstone and his administration, and so are irreverent on this topic.

Maybe they should Emulate the Eyeball to Eyeball experiments that seems to be working so well where Instead of lights at Minor Junctions or Pedestrian crossings its up the drivers and pedestrians to be aware of each others presence and to give way accordinglay, it seems to work where theyve tried it out. one things for sure you can never ease Traffic congestion by needlessly stopping the traffic flow. and think of all that Leccy youd save by doing with the lights and all the other associated paraphanalia...
