I will be interested to see what answer the Minister gives tomorrow to this question. 
41 Bob Spink (Castle Point): To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, what (a) time period and (b) jurisdictions are covered by Criminal Records Bureau checks on (i) British and (ii) foreign national applicant for taxi licences. |

Mr. Khan: Communities and Local Government has no responsibility for these matters. The licensing of taxis is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport. The Criminal Records Bureau is an executive agency of the Home Office. |

Of far more interest is wheter any of the parties will adopt the FSB's CRB passport idea so that you don't have to keep getting seperate checks for your badge,school contracts etc etc |

Just when you thought you'd had enough checks here comes another one I give you the Idependent Safegaurding Authority coming to a council near you in 2009 a bargain at £64 each "Roll up! Roll up!"

I take it they're not the Idependent Safeguarding Authority of my wallet only it's contents, lol. What on earth are they for are. I mean what exactly will they do for a mere £64.00

Here you go Toots http://www.isa-gov.org.uk/ Looks like they ask the CRB on your behalf and charge you for themselves and the CRB! If you want school contracts in Hampshire in 2009 you'll need Crb Check (lesss than 3 months old) ISA Check Btec/NVQ Transporting Passengers By Taxi 10 million Public Liability insurance |

Same with the Btec/NVQ do you have to have this first or can you do it while still working with the kids? Perhaps I should bin off the taxis and become an assessor instead

Skippy I did say this was for HAMPSHIRE
Not all insurance liability is £10mill Westminster is but mine is only £5 mill I spoke to the contract co-ordinator yesterday and she said all that sheite will be needed when the contracts go out in Oct 2009

All this will lead to is owners abandoning the school contracts,  but if the council want them covered as they will do they will have to pay the full price

we've stopped doing school contracts because the sheer volume of paperwork and expense just to go on the tender list is just not worth it and the drivers always turn their nose up at credit work anyway But reading through their website the definition is very broad and technical any bookings involving transporting children or young adults would be included so i would say that most LA's will adopt this as cumpulsory for drivers and add their own admin fees on as well ! |

We have a knowledge test here and I'll be damned if I can work out how some of the drivers are passing it. It's not the most difficult of tests but a certain level of english is definately required and a lot of drivers coming through now don't have it. I am going to stick to my belief that all NEW drivers should be put through a serious training course that not only covers customer service but all apsects of taxi driving e.g car maintenance, book keeping etc and this should all be done before a knowledge test is even sat
