In the latest edition of 'On Rank' (www.onrank.co.uk) on page 27 is an advert for Westminster Insurance. At the top of the page is 'Westminster - Specialists in Taxi and Private Hire insurance' Lower down is 'Created by taxi drivers for taxi drivers'. As Westminster can't tell the difference between Taxi and Private Hire now, expect taxi premiums to rise... |

I tried Swinton TAXI SPECISLISTS when my renewal was due, the guy on the phone didn't even know what an E7 was, didn't know the difference between a private hire badge or an hackney badge, ended the conversation by telling him to forget it |

From an insurance point of view, is there much difference between hackney and private hire or as it is with my insuranc, public hire and private hire? Oviously the is a difference regarding the type of work that you can do with each insurance but is there much difference from a premium point of view? |

It would certainly make a difference if you end up with the wrong cover because the person on the other end of the phone didn't know what they where doing. Insurance companies only need an excuse not to pay out. I once took out a courier insurance policy for £600, over 10 years ago, after 2 months of cover the broker rang me to say the person who quoted me had got it wrong and had also left the company. The policy should have been £1600, after further discussionsand arguments I cancelled the policy and moved to a different broker. Premium point of view, my 3rd party Private hire insurance was £3000 a year 4 years ago My fully comp Public hire insurance was £2400 4 years ago |

Another good reason to have single phase taxis where all taxis can obtain work through private hire and public hire. If the so called professionals don't know the difference what chance has Joe Public and lets face it Joe Public doesn't actually care so long as they can get from A to B with convenience. At the end of the day we all just taxi people around some in Black Hackney Carriages and some in Top Of The Range Saloon Vehicles. We should work together to provide an excellent service to the public and stop the petty bickering it's really irritating

If premiums rise then I suspect you will go elsewhere no-matter what name they had. |

Westminster was created by taxi drivers......I think its original origin was the Owner Drivers Society (ODS). If they didint know the difference wouldnt they have just stated specialists in taxi insurance? CC |

Used Westminster about 10 years ago they seem to have some unorthodox ways of doing things which cost me dear when one of my cars had a non fault accident ! I would never touch them again |
