Boss starts new Chippenham taxi firm
Taxi firm owner Timothy Northey has started a new cabbie company after being forced to liquidate his previous one.
Mr Northey, who owned the Easy Taxi firm in Chippenham for 30 years, now runs V Cars Chippenham from the same office on Sheldon Road.
After a long running battle with the Inland Revenue, Mr Northey was forced to close the company after he claims he was hit with an unjustified tax bill based on whether his drivers were employed or self-employed.
He said: “We had a four-year battle with the revenue and, despite seeking the best advice, to prove what we were doing was correct, they ruled against us.
“Eventually I had to concede that the only way to keep the company going, albeit under a different name, was to liquidate the old company and form a partnership with V Cars using their expertise and technology.
“There have been a lot of teething problems with the new technology and we apologise to our customers who have found the service less reliable than in the past.
“We still see ourselves as a Chippenham company, are still based in our old premises and hold all our old contracts and, most importantly, we still offer the same service to the community.”
After the old Easy Taxi firm was liquidated some of the drivers, including Trevor Evans and John Stokes, formed their own company, EZY Taxis.
Mr Northey said: “I’d like to thank Mr Evans and Mr Stokes for their long association with the firm and wish them good luck.”
