TAXI drivers in Henley say they do have not enough spaces to pick up fares.
More than 20 cabbies have signed a letter to South Oxfordshire District Council asking for extra ranks.
They represent Streamline Executive Cars, County Cars, AA Henley Taxis, Chiltern Taxis and Talbot Taxis.
Former district councillor Tony Lane is also backing the campaign after serving on the council’s taxi licensing committee for many years.
David Skittrell, who has run Streamline Executive Cars in Peppard Lane for three years, claimed the existing spaces were used illegally by other drivers.
He said: "The stand in Hart Street is very often used by the public who park when visiting the bank.
"It has been suggested that perhaps three spaces outside the Catherine Wheel, two spaces in Bell Street, two spaces in Duke Street and three spaces in Market Place would give the town a greater balance for people who use the service provided by the drivers."
Mr Skittrell added: "Henley Town Council is very concerned with increasing the use of Henley by shoppers and I feel that if increased pick-up spaces were provided it would perhaps encourage more shoppers to use Henley for the benefit of everyone."
