POUNDS 150K FOR TAXI HELL SCOT

A SCOTS backpacker left brain-damaged after a taxi driver tried to mow him down has been awarded pounds 150,000.

Andrew Mackay, 28, was left in a coma after the run-in with a cabbie on the first night of a trip to Australia.

The cabbie threw Andrew out in a row over a fare in June 2003.

But then he suddenly reversed his cab, hitting a bus-stop pole which fell and struck Andrew's head.

Now a judge at Sydney district court has awarded Andrew damages after civil hearings there and in Glasgow.

Andrew, of Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, was starting a year's travelling when he was attacked.
