No surcharge for black cabs

A CONTROVERSIAL surcharge which black cab drivers were allowed to charge while fuel prices were high will not be re-introduced.

Councillors on Sheffield Council's licensing board reviewed their decision taken last month after pleas by the Sheffield Taxi Trade Association and individual drivers, who claimed they needed the extra income due to other increased running costs.

Customers complained prices were too high - the surcharge meant a 1.1 mile journey from the train station to Norfolk Park cost up to £4.70.

The licensing board did allow a 4.1 per cent increase in overall fare prices.
