Taxi Driver Online recognises Peter Maddox as being an icon in Taxi licensing litigation but surely there is only one Peter Maddox?

Challenging role awaits new coroner;

Lawyer takes over Bridgend hotspot

A NEW coroner has been appointed for Bridgend and the Glamorgan Valleys.

Peter Maddox, who takes up the appointment this week, said he recognised that the recent spate of suicides in Bridgend county had made it a high profile area.

He believes his new role will prove to be challenging.

Mr Maddox, 43, is the present coroner for Powys and will combine the two roles. He will be based in Aberdare, where from next year all inquests from across Bridgend and the Glamorgan Valleys will be heard.

A new coroner's court will be created in the town, in the former Cynon Valley Borough Council chamber at Rock Grounds.

For more than four decades the coroner was based at a local solicitor's practice. Former coroner Philip Walters retired last month after 35 years' service.

Powys inquests will still be heard in that county.

"This will be a more feasible, streamlined operation rather than the coroner sitting at various locations within the administrative area," said Mr Maddox, who will be assisted in his duties by coroner's clerk Maria Evans. He added: "I have always been interested in medical matters and the link between the law and medicine.

"As a solicitor I was involved with many personal injury and medical cases. I was appointed coroner for Powys in 2007 and have enjoyed the role."

Born in Wiltshire of Welsh parents, Mr Maddox was raised in Trecastle, near Brecon. He studied law at Aberystwyth, became a solicitor in 1989 and was called to the Bar in 1994. In 2003 Mr Maddox became a tribunal judge dealing with social security benefits issues and a year later was appointed a county court deputy district judge.

He is married to Debbie, who is the assistant coroner's clerk at Aberdare and the couple live in Clydach, Swansea. They have one son, Richard, 14.

I would imagine that's quite a common name in Wales.

In the same way Bob Smith is in England, and Shughie McFee in Scotland. :D

I feel sea sick.

Didn't Maddox represent Chauffer Bikes Ltd v Leeds City Council?

Some you win some you lose.

I still think he's one of the best even though he doesn't get it right some of the time.

Regards

JD
