BOLTON A councillor is facing allegations he posed as a private hire taxi driver.

Labour member Sean Hornby is facing four charges. It is alleged he used a vehicle for private hire, acted as a private hire driver and operated a car as a private hire vehicle, all without a licence.

Coun Hornby, 44, of Elder Drive, Darcy Lever, Bolton, a ward councillor in Little Lever and Darcy Lever, is also facing a charge of driving without relevant insurance.

Coun Hornby has not been suspended as chairman of Bolton council's planning committee. He said: "I am pretty confident that I have done nothing wrong."

The case was adjourned at Bolton Magistrates' Court until November 18. No pleas have been entered.
