Teenager stripped and robbed in "taxi" terror

A TEENAGER was stripped and robbed after being taken on a terror ride by a bogus taxi driver.

The 18-year-old had got into the 'cab' after leaving Oceana nightclub in Nottingham just after 3am on Friday.

After reaching Attenborough Lane in Chilwell the driver accused him of having no money to pay the fare.

The driver made a call on his mobile phone before turning round and heading back towards the city.

The car stopped in Radford where another man got into the back and began assaulting the teenager. "He took my top off and then ordered me to take my trousers and shoes off," said the victim.

"He then took my wallet and my new mobile phone. He kept hitting me for five minutes and then I was dumped on the street in just my boxer shorts and socks."

The teenager, a supermarket cashier from Chilwell, was spotted by a passer-by just after 4am. The man called an ambulance, which took the victim to Central Police Station.

The victim's 41-year-old mother said: "This has traumatised my son. He hasn't been to work since and does not want to go out. He had been out with some friends but, as can happen, he became separated from them during the night.

"I want other young people to be aware that there are people out there doing this."

She has urged the man who called the ambulance to contact police.

"My son said he was called 'Jamie T'. He was a bit older than him. I think he was in his 20s."

Police say the teenager was the third person to be robbed by bogus taxi drivers this year, and the second this month.

Detective Inspector Gerard Milano, of Central CID, said: "We understand a number of unlicensed vehicles are being used as taxis, which are being driven by non-registered drivers.

"Before getting into a taxi, always check the vehicle has a taxi registration plate on the back of the vehicle.

"In addition, check the taxi driver's identification badge, which should be visible inside the taxi.

"These incidents, although serious, are thankfully still relatively rare."
