Presenter fired;

A BBC radio presenter was fired after making "completely unacceptable" comments about Asian taxi drivers, the broadcaster said yesterday.

Sam Mason, 40, of BBC Radio Bristol, asked a Bristol cab firm not to send an Asian driver to pick up her daughter because "a guy with a turban on is going to freak her out."

There is one FEMALE asian taxi driver working locally (not that she can drive very well although she can actuallt reverse the car now :D ) so they do exist BUT a lot of customers don't like being driven by asian drivers because of bad experiences in the past so it isn't that unusual to make such a request although many asian drivers are VERY sensitive about it

Political correctness is starting to go a bit too far in my opinion after all the police would laugh at you if you complained about muslim asians calling you names

I was under the impression releasing taped conversions into the public domain breached the data protection act. If I was this woman I would consider legal action against the firm and seriously consider legal action against the bbc if appropriate.

Off on a tangent but now I've read it I've been reminded that I meant to ask........ What is the score over recorded conversations. Can a taxi office record telephone conversations with customers if the customer is not aware it is being recorded.
