Man trapped taxi driver in robbery

A PRIVATE hire taxi driver was robbed by a man who trapped him by his seatbelt.

The 38-year-old Asian driver was targeted in the Finnieston area of Glasgow early this morning.

It happened shortly after midnight and police are appealing for help to catch the culprit.

He was driving a black Ford Focus Estate private hire car at the SECC when a man got into it.

The driver asked the man to get out as he was due to pick up another fare. When the man refused to get out of the car, the driver said he was going to drive to the police office at Anderston.

As he drove along Finnieston Street, near to Green's Health Club, the man pinned the driver back with his seatbelt forcing him to stop the vehicle.

The suspect then stole a three-figure sum of cash. The suspect is described as white, 26-28, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in, and of medium build, wearing a grey T-shirt and blue jeans.

Have to wonder why he was wearing it, since he is exempt while carrying passengers.

True, never wear one myself, even then I suppose I could have made the guy sh*t his pants by speeding up and heading towards a shop window

He was on his way to a radio job, thus he is legally obliged to wear his seatbelt.

He was driving this guy to a police station. I'd say he was exempt.
